Our Story

    I’ve spent more than ten years as a lawyer. Then I built the software I kept wishing existed.

    I was a litigator for nearly a decade before moving in-house as product counsel at a tech startup. Then, I opened my freelance legal practice and hit the same wall I’d dealt with as a litigator: practice management software that costs a fortune and clearly wasn’t designed around how lawyers actually spend a day. In October 2025, I stopped complaining about it and started building Batesly.

    How we got here

    1. OCT 2025

      Batesly is founded

      After leaving a tech startup in September, I started designing the platform for my freelance legal practice — and quickly realized this could help other lawyers, too.

    2. FEB 2026

      First demos to law firms

      A prototype in front of real practitioners. Every demo turned into an hour of “can it do this instead?” — which became the roadmap.

    3. APR 2026

      Engineering team hired

      Product decisions stayed with a practicing lawyer; the build went to people who do this for a living. Security and reliability were fundamental from day one.

    4. AUG 2026

      Launch — and our first angel investor

      Batesly went live. An angel who’s spent a career around law firms backed it the same month.

    5. NOW

      Onboarding Founding Firms

      THROUGH DEC 2026

      New features go live most weeks, shaped by the firms in the room. Founding Firms work with me directly — no account managers, no ticket queue.

    6. JAN 2027

      General market launch

      Planned. Founding Firm pricing is locked in before then.
